Although a brand new festival with a short history, Film Olympiad was created to fill a missing space in cinematic history. Founded in 2021, by Ioannis Makro, it is the first ever International Film Festival to present and publish the ratings of all its films, to have a unique competition system and to present the Film Olympiad Medals - to name just a few of the many Film Olympiad innovations.
Past Film Olympiad winners and nominees of the medals are internationally acclaimed artists, including Academy award winner Zoe Saldaña, (the highest grossing actress in the history of cinema), fellow Oscar nominees Colman Domingo, Lily Gladstone, Doug Roland, Farah Nabulsi, Hollywood icon Kevin Bacon, artists from every part of the globe such as Diego Calva, and directors Bogdan Muresanu, Thanasis Neofotistos.
However, at its core, Film Olympiad is primarily about every filmmaker having a chance to be recognised for their work, regardless of budget or previous fame.
This is reflected to our winners lists. Our 13 Film Olympiad Grand Prix winners come from 12 different countries, whilst a total of 25 countries have reached the podium for Best Film. This list also includes 3 animation, 3 documentary and 2 dance films, proving that Film Olympiad is awarding the best films, regardless of their type.
We are excited with the bright future ahead us.
The Olympiad for Filmmakers, the Olympiad for you is here - and this is only the beginning!
