Retrospective Moodboards – 7 artists for the 7th art

7 artists are each called to present an artwork. At the same time, they will choose a film from international cinema to counterpoint and converse with their art – either in an explicit or a more abstract way.

The Film Olympiad is a unique film festival, with the participation to date of more than 800 films from 84 countries, many of them with distinctions at the Oscars and top festivals worldwide. For the first time, on the 7th of July, there will be an art exhibition of seven artists, each with their own work, alongside the screening of the top films of the 10th Film Olympiad Grand Prix. This exhibition aims to bring these two worlds – of painting and cinema – closer together, in Greece, as is common abroad.

After all, film storyboards are made with sketches (often drawn by the directors themselves). As for moodboards, remarkable paintings are often chosen rather than photographs. Iconic Director of Photography Vittorio Storaro once said that cinematography is “painting with light,” thus demonstrating the influence of the art of painting on cinema – as has been said by countless great directors, from Sergei Eisenstein and Stanley Kubrick to Martin Scorsese.

In this maiden exhibition, the seven participating artists that honour their event with their inspired work: Fivos Chatziantoniou, Gabriel Grama, Petrica Dragomir, Stella Kondili, Kalliopi Kopanitsa, Lucan Alina Mirela, Bojana Stojanovic.

The exhibition is organized by the Film Olympiad Art Administrator, Andreea M. Burlea and the Film Olympiad Founder & Chairman, Ioannis Makro.
