Film Olympiad restarted its activity with the 7th Film Olympiad Grand Prix.
“I am number” from Serbia, a documentary by Zoran Tairovic, was the big winner of this Grand Prix, winning the Gold Medal in the Best Film category, but also in the categories of Best Documentary, Director, Message, Quote and Human Rights Film.
“The Rat” from Kazakhstan, was a close second, and also ended up winning the People’s Choice Gold Medal, along with Best Screenplay (Zhantemir Baimukhamedov & Galina Bondareva), Leading Actor (Saken Moldakhmetov) and Low Budget Film! “The Rat” was also the most nominated film with a total of 16 nominations (winning 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze).
“The Inheritance” from France, by Matthieu Haag, made it to the podium both in Best Film and People’s Choice as a Bronze medalist. Moreover, it won two Golds for the exquisite performances of Rita Hayek and Camile Salameh.
Three women directors, were the medalists in the most Promising Director category (for Debut, Student or under 30 year old directors). Dora Jung (The Verdict – Serbia), Tati Baramia (Without a Promise – Georgia) and Marian Monreal Otano (When Grass Grows – Spain). All of them were also nominees in the Best Director category.
Another four women directors, directed the three most successful Greek films. Olga Bacopoulou directed the short documentary “En Omonoia” which won the silver in the People’s Choice and Best Documentary. Myrto Trabl’s “Land of the Immune” won two silvers at the Best Comedy and Idea categories. Efi Sialevri’s and Vicky Yiagopoulou’s animation “Maram” won the gold in the Best Animation and Idea categories.

In total 70 films from 25 countries participated in the 7th Film Olympiad Grand Prix. USA had 15 films, France & Greece 8 each, Spain 5, UK 4.
3 countries (Georgia, Kazakhstan and Poland) were represented for the fist time in Film Olympiad. This leads to a total of 65 countries and 440 films since the beginning of Film Olympiad. The most successful countries in this competition were:

France – 4 Gold medals, 6 Silver, 7 Bronze & 8 nominations
Kazakhstan – 4 Gold medals, 3 Silver, 1 Bronze & 8 nominations
USA – 3 Gold medals, 2 Silver, 0 Bronze & 9 nominations
Greece – 2 Gold medals, 6 Silver, 1 Bronze & 11 nominations
Australia – 2 Gold medals, 3 Silver, 2 Bronze & 4 nominations

Knock – out stage:
Films are seeded according to their group stage position and ratings to the knock – out bracket. There are 5 rounds (Round of 32, Round of 16, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, Finals) and in each round films are re-evaluated.
